We are an inclusive club and venue where all are welcome.
Edge Hill Cairns Bowls Club is a Dementia Friendly Club. We are fully accessible for players and visitors who live with a disability or who have dementia. This was made possible through a grant from Dementia Australia, enabling us to update our facilities and equipment to make our club an enjoyable space for patrons of all abilities.
Dementia is the second leading cause of death for Australians and there is data suggesting it will soon be the leading cause of death. In 2024, it is estimated that over 421,000 Australians are living with dementia.
It is of utmost importance to us to do our part in lessening the stigma and isolation affecting people living with dementia in our community. With dementia advocate George Burnett at the helm of this endeavour, Edge Hill Cairns Bowls Club are proud to have been acknowledged as the first Dementia Friendly Organisation in Far North Queensland and granted funding through the Dementia Australia Community Engagement Program.
Our club staff are registered Dementia Friends and our facilities have undergone refurbishment with specialised bowls equipment to make the club surroundings and games accessible and enjoyable for guests and members who live with dementia or other disabilities.
Being a Dementia Friendly Organisation is of great importance to us, as we strive to always be an inclusive, accessible club for people from all walks of life and with all abilities. Our goal is to continue developing Dementia Friendly communities in Cairns and Far North Queensland.
Edge Hill Cairns Bowls Club is also a part of the FNQ Dementia Alliance, a volunteer-run initiative serving as a support network for people living with dementia and their families.

History
The chosen land set against the lush backdrop of Whitfield was originally owned by the RSS and AILA sub-branch. It was surrounded by cane farms and bushland, and players would often see cassowaries and their chicks go by.
